Why do we dread Mondays?

As I lazily pulled myself out of the bed one Monday morning, I began contemplating why do I hate it?

And this is what I listed:

  1. REPAIRING THE HAPPY RAVAGES OF SUNDAY – After an exhausting week, we’d like nothing more than a relaxing Sunday. We love Sundays for many reasons, we get to sleep till afternoon, not take a bath (although that’s impossible for someone like me), order food and binge watch.
  2. WEEKEND HANGOVER – This is the unhappy feeling we get on Mondays following a drunken, fun-filled Sunday! Often times Mondays are tagged along with adjectives like gloomy or long to justify strong dislike. No coffee can ever cure Weekend hangover.
  3. MONDAY BLUES – Comfortable and carefree lifestyle at home often adapted during Friday nights lasting two whole days is disrupted just by the thought of arrival of Monday.
I love Mondays, said nobody ever.

4. Monday is also a muse to many songs such as I DONT LIKE MONDAYS by The Boomtown Rats, EXCEPT FOR MONDAY by Lorrie Morgan whose chorus goes like Except for Monday, which was never good anyway.

5. WORK-LIFE DISSATISFACTION – After enquiring with people I have come to the conclusion that this is one of the top reasons why people dread Mondays. A lot of us don’t really wake up with a happy face to go to work or even school. We are at a lot of times hoping for the day to end really soon with constant glances at our watches. The main reason for this discomfort is that we aren’t really doing what we hoped we would which is why we don’t feel satisfied. Trust me you aren’t alone on this one.

So, what should we do to get rid of such intense hatred towards Monday?

  1. Have something to look forward to on that day.
  2. Talk to your favorite person, someone who instantly lights you up.
  3. Go for a walk alone and admire the day in peace.
  4. Read a book, magazine or even lame jokes.
  5. Do anything that would make you happy, perhaps shopping or eating street food.
  6. Listen to music. (Taylor Swift might be of great help!)

These self-help things might work in your favor and if not instantly maybe gradually, you’ll feel better!

Have a great Monday!
